U.S. Patent 6,444,872 B1 contained some controversial claims. The patent was objected to publicly by various groups, including the American Antivivisection Society, as a patent granted to a beagle. They, along with other organizations, requested that the patent be re-examined at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Now, the University of Texas, the patent owner, has disclaimed the patent.
